Below is a list of all the closures we know about currently. Of course, this list is sure to grow and evolve over time, so be sure to double-check for yourself before heading to any new campground.  While campgrounds are open, most facilities and visitor centers have closed, so consider that as you are making your arrangements.

Thousand Trails System

  • Thousand Trails and Encore Parks have closed all parks to new arrivals as of April 6th through April 30th.
  • Bathhouses and/or laundry rooms are closed in some Thousand Trails locations.
  • They announced on 4/2 that they will be allowing extensions to members’ stays that are outside of the contract time frame until 4/30.  Read full details here.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Campgrounds

  • All U.S. Army Corps of Engineers managed campgrounds have begun an orderly shutdown. Individuals with paid reservations will be contacted by email and full refunds will automatically be processed by Recreation.gov with no cancellation fees. Individuals should not attempt to contact Recreation.gov to request a refund as that will lead to a cancellation fee being charged.  (Some District details are outlined below under the State they are located in.)

  •  Most of their parks are still open, but are at capacity.  Please check their website for a current listing of which parks are still taking Reservations.

Alabama

Shelter at Home Order in effect as of April 4

  • Alabama State Park Campgrounds are open as a whole.  The following campgrounds are Closed

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District, all campgrounds are delaying opening for the season until further notice.
  • All National Forest Campgrounds- Closed

Alaska

Arizona

  • All Arizona National Forests- Closed, Dispersed camping is still permitted, although there are reports of locked gates on some access roads.
  • It is reported that some of the Arizona BLM land is at capacity.  Please call our Lake Havasu Field Office (928-505-1200) or Yuma Field Office (928-317-3200) for the latest information on potential camping areas.
  • Colorado River Indian Tribe RV parks- closed to new arrivals, new reservation extensions are being accepted.

Georgia

  • Georgia State Parks are closed except to residents of the area the park is located in.
    • Hard Labor Creek State Park- is being staged for a quarantine facility.  Call the campground for availability.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineer, Savannah District Campgrounds that have not opened for the year will remain closed.
    • Watsadler Campground and Twin Lakes Campground will allow campers arriving by March 18th to stay until the end of their reservation.  All future reservations are being canceled.
  • Old Federal Campground, Lake Lanier- Closed
  • Allatoona Lake Payne Campground- Closed
  • Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest Campgrounds- Closed

Hawaii

Illinois

Shelter at Home Order in effect March 20th

  • All Illinois Department of Natural Resources owned properties- Closed
    • This includes all Illinois State Parks.
  • US Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds in the St. Louis, IL district are closed for incoming patrons after Thursday March 19th. Those with reservations up to and through the 19th will be able to stay through the duration of their reservation. No walk-ins are permitted as of March 17th.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District- Closed
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District managed facilities are closed. Campground openings are not taking new reservations
  • Cook County Forest Preserves Campgrounds- Closed
    • Camp Bullfrog

Indiana

Shelter at Home Order in effect as of March 24th

  • Indiana State Park Campgrounds- Closed
  • Public and Private RV Parks- Closed except to those who reside in RVs and have no other place of residence may remain at the campground
  • Hoosier National Forest developed rec sites- closed
  • Indiana U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District, facilities near the dams at J.E. Roush, Salamonie, Mississinewa, Cecil M. Harden, Cagles Mill, Patoka and Monroe lakes are closed.

Iowa

  • Iowa State Park Campgrounds- Closed
  • All public and private campgrounds- Closed- this order does not prohibit the use of campgrounds by long-term or permanent tenants who reside at the campground
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District- Closed
  • Webster County- Closed

Kansas

Shelter at Home Order in effect as of March 30th

  • All Kansas National Forest Campgrounds- Closed, dispersed camping is being discouraged

Kentucky

Shelter at Home Order in effect as of March 26th

  • Kentucky has issued an executive order prohibiting most travel into the state. Some RV parks may turn-away reservations by non-Kentucky residents. There is no specific language regarding private campgrounds or RV parks.

  • Daniel Boone National Forest Campgrounds and developed rec areas- Closed
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District managed facilities are closed. Campground openings are postponed until further notice.

Louisiana

Shelter at Home Order in effect as of March 23rd

  • Louisiana State Park Campgrounds- Closed
  • Sabine Parish- ordered all RV Parks to close, to everyone except, long term stays over 30 days, arrivals before March 16th, and those performing essential jobs.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District Campgrounds will close as of March 23rd.
  • Niblett’s Bluff Park in Vinton- Closed

Maine

Shelter at Home Order in effect as of April 2nd

  • Maine has closed all public and private RV Parks and Campgrounds
  • Maine State Park Campgrounds- Closed until May 18th.

Maryland

Shelter at Home Order in effect as of March 30th

  • Maryland is considering campgrounds and RV parks non-essential so they are being required to close.  The exemption is that they are permitting residents to remain if they do not genuinely have no other viable place of residence.

  • Michigan has an executive order that closed all private and public campgrounds and RV parks.  These parks may not rent to individuals who otherwise have a primary residence and are traveling on non Covid-19 purposes.  Anyone residing in a campground at the time of the order or is seeking shelter during the pandemic is permitted to stay at the park’s discretion.

Oregon

Shelter at Home Order in effect as of March 22nd

  • All Private campgrounds have been ordered to close except those catering to self contained units with stays longer than 30 days.  Some cities and counties have gone beyond those restrictions.
    • The City of Brookings has closed all public and private RV Parks.
    • Clatsop County has closed all campgrounds and RV Parks public and private except to those that have long term reservations as of March 11th, and those who are employed in the county.
    • The City of Gold Beach Oregon has closed all RV Parks.  Those not meeting business or essential use qualifications must leave.
  • ALL publicly managed campgrounds and RV parks are CLOSED.
    • This includes all federal, state, city, and county managed campgrounds.
  • Oregon State Park Campgrounds- Closed until May 8.
