The Astoria KOA is in our rear view mirror, but the good times we shared with other traveling families are still fresh in our minds and hearts. The 2011 Summer Family Reunion was a fabulously fun time!
Lots of laughing, learning, story telling, hooping, bouncing, and so many campfires, I can’t wash the smell out of my clothes!
While the rally officially kicked off on Thursday night, a few families arrived early to warm up the folding chairs and stoke the fire. When more families arrived on Thursday night, we had a s’mores campfire, followed by a viewing of the Goonies. The Astoria Chamber of Commerce (where the Goonies was filmed) generously donated Goonies Gift Packs, which were awarded after the movie during a Goonies Trivia Contest.

On Friday morning, we trounced through everyone’s homes to see what all the different rigs look like. It always amazes me that even though we all use our RVs for the same purpose, they are each so unique, as is all the upgrades and changes each owner makes to make them more livable.

The KOA’s jumping pillow was the key attraction and kids bounced on it for hours! Some Moms bounced too…

Friday afternoon, after swearing in our newest Goonies, we went on a hunt through the entire campground for One Eye’d Willie’s Rich Stuff! The kids tore thru the clues which led them to a treasure chest brimming with candy. If I hadn’t been for Greg Mulac and his trusty golf cart, I would never have been able to keep the pace!

There was just enough time to start the Minute to Win It Games. The victors, Clementine and Stephanie successfully transferred M&Ms from one end of the table to the other – with the power of their own suction! Pretty impressive ladies!

On Saturday there was a 100% Kid Organized talent show – acts ranged from singing and dancing to a tae kwon do demonstration. Our own Morgan Mulac shined while performing Dynamite – Way to go, Morgan!

We held a family trivia contest on Friday night and saw just how well rounded nomadic families are! The Seeley’s took 1st Place and won the CamPink Lounge Chair, while the Pantekoek Family won a $25 Mo’s Restaurant Gift Certificate and the Mulacs won a family pack of tickets to Seaside Family Fun Park.
The rain on Saturday morning provided a bit of a rest and some families took the opportunity to tour the local attractions such as the Maritime Museum and Lewis and Clark National Park.
There was still plenty to do in the afternoon when the KOA hosted Tie Dying, Build a Bear and an ice cream social.
To wash down the ice cream, we invaded the internet café and had a Birthday Bash to sing Happy Birthday to all our family members with summer birthdays. Balloons were flying, frosting was smeared, and we took advantage of the sugar high to get a great group picture.

Then it was back to the nightly campfire and time for the kids to make some Fathers’ Day Cards and play legos.

On Sunday, we started with a pancake breakfast and then some dads headed to the Fort George Brewery for a tour and bbq lunch.
We sad some sad goodbyes to some families who packed up and headed home, while in true full time style, others extended their reservations and kept the party going (and the campfire roaring).
The kids played for hours on the inflatables as the adults relaxed… in front of the fire.

The families we met and the time we shared with them are memories we will treasure most about this life journey we are on. We love hosting the Family Reunions and can’t wait to do it again in October! See you in Tombstone!
